Blog | sparkle this city in 2015

Well the year 2014 just flew by, it seems. I don't know about you but I have a feeling that 2015 will be an amazing year- hoping I'm right!

In 2014 I received my first PR samples - so exciting! Can't wait to see what 2015 will bring.

(image: We Heart It)

Its very similar to last year, but here are some of my blog goals for 2015:

1. Blog more/be more organized.
I need to blog more. But I feel like I always have something else to do and I just can't blog. Which makes me very sad. So I need to try to always have post ready in advance. Try not to go a week without posting as well. Post at least 10-15 posts a note. On top of that, use my organiser/journals/make lists to not get overwhelmed.

2. Different posts.
I want to blog more about other interests of mine/more lifestyle posts.

3. Read more blogs.
Read and discover more blogs. Often I don't get the chance to read blogs and end up having weeks worth of blog posts to read! Also want to comment more and use Bloglovin more!

4. Improvements.
No matter what, one can always improve writing skills, organization, photography & editing skills. There is always, always, something new, something to learn, something to improve.

5. New blog design/New name(?).
I'm currently looking to get a new custom-made blog design. So 2015 will probably be the year for that. Also, I've been thinking about changing my blog name, I really like it, but I don't know if its suitable. What do you guys think: should i keep it? do you like it?

6. Use social media more.
Its no secret that social media has been growing over the past couple years and that its a great platform for us bloggers. And I also need to participate in #bbloggers chat and other chats on twitter. I'd also like to make blogger friends! :)

7. Followers/Views/Posts.
GFC: 300 followers
Bloglovin: 500 followers
Twitter: 800 followers
Overall views: 30,000
Overall posts: 100 ++

Hope you keep reading my blog in 2015! If you ever want to talk to me you can on Twitter (@sparklethiscity) or email me at sparklethiscity@outlook.com

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Vichy Dermablend Setting Powder | REVIEW

Hi everyone!

Today I will be reviewing the *Vichy Dermablend Setting Powder. I'm gonna start of by saying that I love this product.  Let's see what this finely milled, hypoallergenic, paraben-free, no-scent and transparent setting powder is all about!

Color/texture: This setting powder is a universal shade (invisible once applied) - can be used by any skin tones. It has a micro fine texture.

Results: Gives a matte/natural finish - made my skin looking flawless and it also leaves your skin super soft. Since using this setting powder, I have noticed a difference with my skin - it has been looking better! It is also a long lasting powder.

Also, it includes a powder puff which works great! This powder is very gentle and lightweight so its great for sensitive skin. I love the fact that its not cake at all and very natural. This product will last you for a long time cause theres a lot of products and you really don't need a lot.

If you're interested in checking out this product, you can go on Escentual by clicking here. Escentual.com have a sale going on now - save 15% off of everything on their site! So don't miss that! It ends on the 12th of January.

Kylie Jenner lipstick ft. MAC cosmetics

As you all know there's plenty of lips products that are rumoured to be what Kylie Jenner uses. After asking the lady at the MAC counter she told me that Kylie was using is the MAC lip pencil in Whirl and the MAC lipstick in Brave.

This mauve nude lip combo has taken over Youtube/blogging community and it's not hard to understand as it's the perfect everyday wear, but with a different twist, 90s vibe.

MAC WHIRL LIPLINER
This is a universal lipliner that can be used with a lot of colours. It's a pinkish brown / nude / mauve.  Your lips will look bigger / fuller. I am not one to usually wear lipliner cause I didn't really understand why I should use it, but this made me realize that I need to use lip liners more! This will make the lipstick last longer - also, you can slightly over line your lips if you want more of that Kylie Jenner look.

MAC BRAVE LIPSTICK
A pink/mauve/beige satin lipstick / slightly matte without being dry. For a matte lipstick it's very comfortable on the lips. Natural and great for everyday wear.  It's like a my lips but better. One of my all time favourite lipstick that I will repurchase as soon as I run out! It last a few hours - very easy to apply.

EOS Visibly Soft // Vanilla Mint + Coconut Milk

Today I will be talking about the new EOS visibly soft (vanilla mint + coconut milk).

To start off, how adorable are packaging? I feel like they are actually easier to hold with this packaging. The colours, design are absolutely on point.

I am an EOS lover, I use them all the time, have them everywhere. So I'm always excited when they have new products. So for the difference between the original and these I would say is that they go on smoother and have a slightly different texture. I also feel like they last longer. Also they are easier to apply.

The smell are more on the sweet side and subtle.
Vanilla Mint:  Smells minty with a subtle hint of vanilla - my favourite!
Coconut Milk: Milky coconut fragrance

Overall, I think they are great products: goes on smoother, easier to apply, great smell, cute packaging... what's not to love?

Warby Parker x Ghostly

Hi everyone!

Today, I will be talking about the new Ghostly collection by Warby Parker. Their collection is inspired by design and it's very fashion forward collection.

As a graphic design lover, I think the eyeware are beautifully made and truly made for people inspired by design.

In my opinion, it's eyewear for fashion forward people (specially artists, musicians, designers). The colours and shapes really set them apart from others.

One of my favourite from the collection is the Curtis in Bourbon Tortoise as featured on the model below.

The Ghostly collection by Warby Parker focuses on eyeglasses and sunglasses. Please check out the links right here and hereif you are interested in learning more about the collection!

Here are some of the different model of eyeglasses and sunglasses from the Warby Parker x Ghostly collection:

Overall, I think it's a great collection: the eyeglasses and sunglasses are very nice, a lot of options and very fashion forward!

Future

Deciding what you want to do for the rest of your life at 18 or even 21 without actually working in that field is the most difficult thing ever. Especially for us, I feel like we are the generation that are in the evolution of careers and all that. With technology there is so much more possibility and our interest are really different for most parts. Most young people these days, won't stay at the same place for all their career. That's simply the truth.

I feel like we take too much of our time thinking about the future when we should be thinking about the present. Deciding what you want to do can't be chosen in a year while you have no experience in the real world.

Think about what you TRULY love, don't try to impress anyone with having a certain title. Don't take a course just because you feel like people will be impress with what you are doing.

Don't think about how being successful depends on how much you're making or what title you have. Being successful depends on waking up each day and wanting to actually want to go to work. No need for 3 coffees.

If you work hard enough at what you actually really love, you'll be happier and that is being a successful person to me, not a title of a job can actually do that.

If you feel like there is nothing for you out there, build your own job; it might be hard and time consuming at first but it will be so worth!

It's okay to change what you want your career to be, you're always changing - everything happens for a reason.

So many feels...

Just remember that no matter what you do in the future, if you work hard enough and have a job that makes you happy - nothing else matters xo

Don't forget to live in the present to do what you love and it will all work out.

The 1989 Inspired ''Ask anything'' tag

I've been a Swiftie for as long as I can remember. I've seen Taylor Swift in concert during her Fearless tour a few years ago and it was one of the best day ever! Taylor has influenced me alot; I took guitar classes, started writing my own songs, her style has also inspired me and the way she carries herself! So it's only normal that I do this tag aha!

Untitled

1. Welcome to New York. If you could live in any city, which would it be and why?
New York! haha!

2. Blank Space. What is something that everyone thinks is true about you but is actually false?
That I'm shy... Most people that say that don't even take the time to talk to me? So I can't understand how they'd say I'm shy. I might not be the greatest conversation starter but if you start a great conversation and you are interesting I will surely join in and have many, many things to say... People that I'm close to know that I'm not shy ahah so yeah! Very annoying when people say that; you have no idea!

3. Style. What is one item in your closet that makes you feel unstoppable?
Not one thing in particular, but when I find things that goes together perfectly to create an amazing outfit.

4. Out of the Woods. What is one thing that you're afraid of?
I can't think of one thing right now, but I sure am afraid of some things...

5. All You Had To Do Was Stay. Who is someone you wish was still in your life?
Some people.

6. Shake It Off. What is something you have had to shake off?
What people say. Ignore them. They don't know any better and have nothing better to do with their time than to gossip all day; please go back on the couch and watch TV. And stop making the world a negative place. Thank you.

7. I Wish You Would. What is something you'd like to happen right now?
That I didn't have to sleep and that I could work more on more on my blog. Just more time in general for everything...

8. Bad Blood. Have you ever had someone stab you in the back?
Not really - I don't do to people what I don't want them to do to me. And even if they tried, I simply don't even have the time to deal with that!!

9. Wildest Dreams. What would you like to be remembered for?
Woah, good question! Not really sure...

10. How You Get The Girl. What is your favourite pick-up line?
I don't have one

11. This Love. What is something you got back that you never thought you would?
Not sure

12. I Know Places. Where is one place you always feel safe?
Home.

13. Clean. What is an important lesson you have learned in life, and how did you learn it?
Everything happens for a reason.

I tag you!

Blogging tips | Time management

To start off, I'm truly not the best at managing time. With college/school, work and blogging, days seem to never have enough hours. So here are some of my tips that I have found over my time of blogging that has helped me a bit!

image from www.weheartit.com
| Keep a notebook for your blog |
Go to like Walmart and buy yourself a super cute notebook and write down blog posts ideas. Always keep it close cause you never know when you might have an amazing blog post ideas. Put a heart or a star next to the blog post ideas, you really want to write next to keep track.

| Try reading blog posts everyday |
If you don't, you'll end up like me having to catch on 500 blog posts to read, kinda overwhelming, right? Reading blog post everyday will help lower that amount of having too much to read and not enough time. Reading blog post will also help you with your writing skills and give you inspiration.

| Write posts in advance |
One that is extremly hard for me. I always try to schedule my post but I always want to post it right away so I never have some posts in advance. But, trust me, it's good if you do! I'd say try to always have 3 blog posts ready.

| Take alot of pictures at once |
When you want to take pictures of something for a new blog post you want to post as soon as possible, try to take pictures of your blog posts ideas you have in your notebook. This way when you feel like writing a blog post, you'll have pictures ready!

| Organise your computer folders |
When you're a beauty blogger, you always end up with 1000 pictures of beauty products and it can be hard to always take the time to organise them. I'm not the best at this too. But I really need to try. You're gonna save so much time instead of looking for pictures.

Roger & Gallet - Fleur de Figuier Ultra-nourishing oil

Hi beauties!

Today, I'll be talking about a new product: Roger and Gallet Fleur de figuier Ultra-nourishing oil*. This is the newest launch from Roger and Gallet - I have never tried any of their products, but after trying this one I really want to try more.

So, basically, this is an oil for the body and the hair. 96% of the ingredients are from natural origins. It has a great smell! This oil has some fruit oils such as grape, pomegranate, black currant, apricot and sweet almond.  It is rich in omega 6 and antioxidant vitamins A and E. It isn't sticky and doesn't take long to absorb. Your skin will feel very smooth after using this. Your hair will be shiny and soft after using this. For the hair, it is suggested to spray the oil in your hands before applying it to your hair, and apply it more on the ends - be careful, if you apply too much it could be too heavy on the hair.

I apply this after getting out of the shower/bath on my skin and it makes my skin so soft and smells wonderful - the smell makes me so happy! Also, it makes my skin look really healthy. I think the packaging is super cute and fancy. It looks very luxurious. It is actually a glass bottle. The back of has a pretty illustration.

Overall, I recommend it, it's a great product - it smells great, has a lovely packaging and makes your skin and hair look great. Just don't apply too much on your hair as it could be a bit heavy.

Check out this product by clicking here.  Also,  Escentual.com is offering a 1/3 off of Roger and Gallet throughout the month of August.

Five favorites.

Hi everyone! For the past few months I've been trying to not buy as much makeup and use/test what I do have. I'm always trying to try new things in my collection.

Here's what I've been loving lately...

Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Medium/Deep Matte Bronzer//
I believe that I have found my favorite bronzer. It's a matte bronzer that isn't orange/muddy aka the perfect bronzer, plus, it smells like chocolate! Say what? It also blends very well! Love, love, love.

Stila Self Adjusting blush in Coral//
This is the perfect blush for the summer. As the name mentions it's a coral blush, it's on the pink side. The texture of this blush is perfect. It blends it quite easily, it is pigmented, lovely color, what more could you ask for?

NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien//
Had this in a Sephora 500 points reward and I am so glad that I discovered this gem. I will be repurchasing this forever and always. I love the texture, color, finish, basically everything about it. The color is a medium toned rose color.  It's the perfect neutral in my opinion. It goes on super smooth. It has a slight shine to it. I really want to try more NARS Satin Lip Pencil... if you have any you really like, please let me know in the comments!

Buxom lipgloss in Creamsicle//
This is one of my all-time favorite lipgloss, especially for the summer time! This subtle creamy corally pink lipgloss is just perfect. It is not sticky. It smells really good as well.

Benefit Sunbeam Highlighter//
If you're looking for a summer highlight, this might be the right one for you. This golden bronze highlighter is perfect for a tanned skin. As Sephora mentioned on their website it's like liquid sunshine! Gives your skin a lovely sunkissed glow! One thing I really like about it's that it's not glittery, but shimmery. It doesn't make your face oily. I will surely repurchase the full size when I finish this one.

And here are some swatches...

Hope you have enjoyed this blog post and enjoying summer! Leave me in the comments what you have been loving lately! xx

MAC Pink lemonade lipglass // Review

Hi! Today I will be reviewing one of my summer favorite, MAC's Pink lemonade lipglass. Btw, long time no talk and hope you're all having a wonderful summer! :)

This is the first lipglass from MAC that I've tried and it surely wont be the last. The texture is a bit sticky. The staying power is about 2 to 3 hours. The pigmentation, I'm not sure if I can say its sheer but it more on the paler side of things so many that's why its slightly sheer.

I love the color of this lipglass: warm pinky coral with a pearl effect. The adorable name Pink Lemonade describes it perfectly! :) Although this lipglass sounds like the typical summer lipgloss it is actually wearable all year long and on daily basis. Also, it smells like vanilla.

Avène Soothing hydrating serum

Lately, I've been having problems with very dry skin. Escentual.com were looking for some bloggers to review the Avène Soothing hydrating serum*. This product seemed like the perfect product for my skin type so I contacted them right away! I'm so happy I got to discover this product cause it works wonder for my skin type.

Having dry and sensitive skin - this is the perfect serum for me! But it works with all skin types. This serum has a silky gel-like texture and soothes and moisturizes. I've been using the Avène Soothing hydrating serum* for the past two weeks and my skin feels more smooth, hydrated, soft, refreshed and less dull.

This serum is highly concentrated with Avène's Thermal Spring water which help soothe and calm irritated and deshydrated skin. Also it very easy to work with - sinks right in and doesn't feel greasy and sticky.

For the packaging, I love that it comes with a pump and the packaging itself looks classy. It has a light smell that is not too overpowering.

I've been using this for the past two weeks, and my skin is feeling hydrated, smooth and less dry. Usually, I apply this after my cleanser, and then I apply a moisturiser. I would surely repurchase this and I'm very tempted to try other products by Avène, especially their Eau thermale!

If you have dry and sensitive skin I would highly suggest the Avène Soothing hydrating serum. Escentual is a great place to get French skincare brand like Avène, La Roche Posay and Clarins.

If you're interested in this product, you can check it out here.

Revlon Colorburst // Matte + Lacquer balm

Hi! Today, I'll be reviewing the new Revlon Colorburst: Matte + Lacquer balm. I have a matte and a lacquer one to talk about. The first one, which is a matte balm is Unapologetic (matte bright coral). The second one, which is a lacquer balm is Coquette. (glossy soft bright pink with silver shimmer)  The new Revlon Colorburst Balms are very similar to the very popular Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Stain, but not the same textures.

First of, I really like how the packaging matches if it's matte or a lacquer. The application is great plus they are very pigmented. I feel like they don't stay on quite as well as the original balm stains, especially the lacquer one. They have a slight minty smell to it, but not too overpowering.

Unapologetic (matte bright coral): For a matte balm, I really like the fact that its not drying at all. Unapologetic is super bright and pigmented. This one will be perfect for the spring/summer.

Coquette (glossy soft bright pink): This one is great for everyday wear. The only downside is that is doesn't have a good staying power.

Overall, they are very great products. Very pigmented, very easy to work and very pretty shades. The only downside is the fact that they don't stay on for that long...

Empties #5

Hi everyone! I haven't realized I haven't blogged for the past 7 days! Time seems to go by so quickly that I just don't realize!

Today, I'll be doing an empties post!

1.  Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Sandstorm.
This is one powder that I constantly go back to, it's not expensive and it works pretty well. I've been using this since high school and whenever I don't know which powder to buy I go to this one.

2. Physicians Formula Organic Wear Pressed Powder.
Another powder - I wish I could finish my other beauty products as fast as powder ahah! Anyways, this powder was good, but not AMAZING for me to run out and repurchase. The packaging was in like thin carton or something and the cover broke...

3. Bath & Body Works Marshmallow Fluff Hand Sanitizer.
I love those! I'm obsessed with B&BW hand sanitizer. This one smells really good. I love the PocketBac ones but I also like the pump ones. I'm also almost done using another one...

4. The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Serum.
This is a pre-moisturiser treatment. It's really great. This has been the product that made me obsessed with serums. I also really want to try more of The Body Shop's vitamin E range.

5. Garnier Nutritioniste Skin Renew Anti-Puff eye roller.
I really like using this! It actually works and really wakes you up in the morning. I will surely repurchase it once I'm done using all my eye creams.

Music Playlist

So this is the first time that I'm posting something (I think) about another thing that I really love: music! I felt like blogging something that wouldn't take too long and this seems like the perfect post. I need to take a break from all the homeworks, projects and studies I have to do!

Anyways, here are some of the music I've been loving for the past few weeks...

1) Ain't no rest for the wicked - Cage the elephant
2) Come with me now - KONGOS
3) Snap out of it - Arctic Monkeys
4) 505 - Arctic Monkeys
5) Sex and candy - Marcy Playground
6) Love me again - John Newman
7) Paradise City - Guns N' Roses
8) Babe I'm gonna leave you - Led Zeppelin
9) Whole lotta love - Led Zeppelin
10) Arabella - Arctic Monkeys

Honestly, there's sooo many types of music that I like, I could go on and on. Let me know if you like these kind of post and I could try to them more often :)

The Beauty Tag

I love doing a tag - it's relaxing and it gets your mind off of anything stressful! :) Hope you'll enjoy!

1. Do you remember your first make up item?
Not exactly - but I'm pretty sure it was something from NYC.

2. What kind of coverage do you prefer for your foundation?
I'd say light/medium coverage. Even if sometimes I would need more coverage, but I don't really don't feel comfortable with alot of coverage.

3. Favourite high end brand?
Can I say all of them? But I guess I'd say MAC, Urban Decay, NARS, Too Faced..  I could go on ahah!

4. Favourite drugstore/highstreet brand?
Maybelline, Revlon, Rimmel, ELF, NYX, Wet N' Wild.

5. What cosmetics brands have you always wanted to try but still haven't?
Chanel or Dior. I really want to try something from those brands. Especially Chanel. One day!

6. Do you wear fake eyelashes?
Sometimes. For special occasion or when I go out.

7. Is there any kind of make up you can't leave the house without?
Face powder and mascara.

8. What is your most cherished beauty product?
Probably my Urban Decay Naked Palette - Since my love for makeup has grown I didn't get the chance to go to a Sephora, cause we had none here. So when I went to New York, I finally got the chance to buy my Urban Decay Naked Palette at the Sephora in Times Squares. It was a special moment ahah!
